Album Title: Torquemada And Other Works
Cat. No.: 80442
Genre: Classical
Description: Carnegie Mellon Contemporary Ensemble and Concert Choir/Robert Page; Carnegie Mellon Concert Winds/Richard Strange; American Brass Quintet and Dorian Woodwind Quintet/Anthony Korf; Anthony di Bonaventura, piano

Balada's music incorporates medieval textures, snarling brass parts, frequent use of ostinati, diatonic choral writing, and asymmetrical rhythms combined with a strong Spanish tinge to produce a powerful and original sound. The title work, Torquemada, is a large dramatic cantata based on the historical figure whose name has become synonymous with the institutionalized cruelties of the Spanish Inquisition.
